PossAbilities

Join us one Saturday a month for a day of fun, learning and great times. This Christian Horizons program runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. one Saturday each month from September to June. Everyone attending will work together to prepare lunch, which is included in the cost.

NOTE: At least 5 participants must be enrolled for each Saturday program to run. Participants will be notified of cancellation eight days in advance.

Dates and activities:

Autumn Harvest: Enjoy a morning at Downey Farm for apple picking, followed by baking and art projects with those fresh apples.

Stranger Dangers: Attendees will be given an overview on how to be safe. A police officer will speak to the group, after which they will role-play, and be given interactive activities throughout the day. Attendees will also work on their personal journals about safety.

DIY Arts and Crafts: Those attending will take transit to the dollar store where they will shop for different creative items. They will return to the program and have a full day of visual art activities.

Cost:

Includes lunch and activities
1:1 support – $282 per day
3:1 support – $120 per day
5:1 support – $89 per day

Community Participation

The Peel Community Participation program offers a wide variety of activities that are tailored to each person’s capabilities; that is activities are offered in different ways to accommodate varying levels of participation and ability. This location is wheelchair accessible, but does not have ceiling lifts.

Activities include:

  • Recreational activities in the on-site gym, art therapy, music appreciation, swimming at a local community centre and adapted gardening
  • Community activities, such as coffee club/ice-cream social, Snoezelen (sensory therapy), trips to local events and attractions such as Butterfly Conservatory, Downey’s Farm, Niagara Falls, local theatre productions, or accessible boating
  • Learning activities, including life-skills program, cooking and baking, volunteer placements at local community stores, and computer/iPad training
  • Monthly Saturday activities

Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m
