Community Participation

Christian Horizons Community Participation Supports offer opportunities for adults over 18 who have a developmental disability to engage in skill development, community involvement, volunteer opportunities and social and recreational activities. The Waterloo Community Participation Program provides both community and location-based opportunities in the Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo area. We create person-specific schedules based on personal goals, supports needed and available funding.

Activities include:

  • Teaching skills such as sign language, cooking, money management, and safety skills
  • Recreational activities such as bowling, swimming, drumming, music time, and Zumba
  • Employment/volunteer opportunities with Mennonite Central Committee, Meals on Wheels, and the local Humane Society
  • Community involvement such as visiting conservation areas, the library, walking community trails, going to St. Jacob’s market as well as special trips to attractions such as Medieval times, CNE, etc.
